And a warm welcome.

And A Warm Welcome

When the new owners of Arkansas Modification Center had their morning coffee July 7, they were greeted by full-page advertisements in both daily newspapers welcoming their British Aerospace company to Arkansas.

We can't recall when a purchase of an Arkansas company received such attention, even having Gov. Bill Clinton drop by the night before the announcement to have a spot of coffee with the gents. The ads, paid for by the chamber, also added a new twist to economic development efforts.

Says one insider: "That was a wonderful opportunity for the chamber to take credit for it, and they didn't have anything to do with it."

Actually, Arkansas Mod had been doing 80-90 percent of its work for BAe, and the two first began talking at the Paris Air Show two years ago. In New York before a bunch of aviation industry publications, the Brits described the deal succinctly: "We just fell into each others arms."
