An open invitation to tour townhall.

LIVERPOOL town hall is throwing open its doors to the public.

Each Monday in August, people will be able to follow in the footsteps of famous visitors, including the Queen and the Dalai Lama.

The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Cllr Frank Roderick, said: ``I am privileged to work in such a truly magnificent building, and I would urge people to come and have a look around and see what all the fuss is about. ''

Edward VII once compared the town hall's rooms to the Czar's Winter Palace in St Petersburg, and described them as the ``best proportioned in all Europe''.

The free open days are on August 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 10. 20-4. 15 and on Friday, August 20 as part of the Capital of Culture celebrations.
