Strocchi (Scuola Normale Superiore, Italy) delivered the lecture series from 1993 to 1996 as a half-semester course for undergraduate mathematics students. Classical mechanics tend to be part of a standard mathematics curriculum, he says, but not so quantum mechanics though it lies at the roots of many developments in mathematics. No date is mentioned for the first edition, but this second adds supplementary material to clarify the core arguments a bit. He covers mathematical description of physical and quantum systems, the quantum particle, the Schrodinger equation of quantum dynamics, and quantum mechanics and stochastic processes. A separate chapter surveys examples, among them the double-slit interference and particle-wave duality, the quantum particle in a square potential well and in a box, and the hydrogen atom.
