Chong (Colorado State U.) and Zak (Purdue U.) present a textbook for a one-semester course introducing optimization theory and methods at a senior undergraduate or beginning graduate level. They assume a working knowledge of basic linear algebra and multivariate calculus, though the first part reviews the mathematical requirements briefly. Their goal is not to describe the latest techniques for optimization, but to provide a foundation for further study. After the mathematical review, they cover unconstrained optimization, linear programming, and nonlinear constrained optimization.
