Amphenol Announces InfiniBand SKEWCLEAR Copper Links.

Business Editors

Amphenol Incorporated, the leading provider of physical connectivity solutions for the InfiniBand architecture, has announced the sampling availability of its new high bandwidth SKEWCLEAR(TM) family of InfiniBand copper cable assemblies for 1X, 4X and 12X applications running at 500 MB through 6GB bandwidths.

SKEWCLEAR is a shielded twinaxial differential cable technology that addresses the issues of high bandwidth, low skew, low crosstalk, minimum termination reflection, and low assembly cost in newly emerging InfiniBand links.

"InfiniBand over copper requires very tight in-pair skew controls to maximize eye opening and minimize EMI," said Carl Booth, Director, Product Development. "We chose shielded parallel pair designs for InfiniBand applications because of their inherent distortion free, low skew properties vs twisted pair or quad constructions. In addition, to drive 2.5Gb signals over 17 meter copper lengths requires creative packaging, wire management, and equalization to condition the signal at the receiver. As a high-speed bulk cable, connector, and assembly supplier, Amphenol is in a unique position to maximize our expertise in cost effective copper InfiniBand links."

The InfiniBand constructions are available in 2, 8, 12, and 24 pair 100 or 150 ohm differential twinax (parallel pair) constructions. AWG sizes depend on link length, typically 30 through 22 AWG. Connectors used are the Tyco HSSDC2(TM) or Fujitsu Micro Giga CN(TM), depending on link width. The shielded parallel pairs have extremely low in-pair skew to meet InfiniBand electrical compliance requirements. All cables are UL CL2 CSA FT4 listed for under raised floor applications. Depending on assembly length and AWG size, the cable assemblies are available with passive equalization within the connector backshell.

About InfiniBand Architecture

InfiniBand Architecture is a next generation I/O technology that can provide greater scalability, availability, and performance for internet and enterprise data centers. More than 220 networking, storage, server and software vendors have joined forces to develop and promote the adoption of the InfiniBand architecture. InfiniBand architecture provides a universal interconnect switching fabric enabling new, lower cost, higher performance and more reliable networks that are not possible today.
