American Red Cross and Global Network Navigator Establish Online Donation System For Victims of Kobe Earthquake.

SEBASTOPOL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 31, 1995--Concerned citizens in the U.S. can now donate money to victims of the Kobe, Japan earthquake through an Internet-based donation system sponsored by the American Red Cross, the largest humanitarian agency in the United States, and Global Network Navigator, an Internet-based online service published by O'Reilly & Associates, Inc.

Using GNN Direct, the online ordering system within Global Network Navigator, users can donate ten dollars or more to American Red Cross aid for survivors of the Kobe earthquake.

"Any cash donations would be greatly appreciated by the victims of this crisis as we are now faced with the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase of the disaster," said Jose Aponte, General Manager of International Services of the American Red Cross.

How To Contribute

With the click of a button on the GNN home page, users first access GNN Direct, then select the American Red Cross icon to access the donation system. The donation system contains background information about the American Red Cross and links to the latest reports on the crisis situation in Japan.

Once in GNN Direct, users fill out a contribution form. Users may complete the form online using a credit card or print the form and mail it in with a check payable to the American Red Cross/Japan Relief. People outside the United States who would like to make a donation should contact the American Red Cross Headquarters at 202-737-8300.

Vehicle for Worldwide Social Responsibility

"GNN is proud to be able to combine its resources with those of the Red Cross," said Dale Dougherty, publisher of Global Network Navigator. "People in over 140 countries communicate on the Internet. Of course lots of them are concerned about the situation in Kobe. We're very happy to provide the mechanism by which Internet users can offer assistance to people during this crisis."
