American Football: Our Brave Hart.

BIG TIME American Football returns to Scotland today when the Scottish Claymores kick off their fifth season in the NFL Europe League against reigning champions, Rhein Fire at Murrayfield stadium.

Twenty-four-year-old Rob Hart, from Southampton, will kick for Britain's sole representatives in the European League this year.

"I'm really enjoying my time in Scotland," said Hart. "It's nice to be somewhere where the people speak your language.

"I was more than happy to take up the chance."

Hart is still subject to the occasional Scotland-England ribbing, especially during the pre-season training camp when the film Braveheart was shown on the team bus.

"I did get a bit of grief during that, but it was all in fun," he said. "There is great camaraderie in this team and we are looking forward to running out in front of the home crowd today and hopefully start the season off in the right way."

After making his debut with the now defunct Monarchs, the English kicker was regarded amongst the grid iron pundits as one of the League's most consistent performers.

"Kicking is all about confidence and if you have that, then half the job is done," he said. "When I was playing in the States, we won our Conference in 1996 where I kicked a gamewinning field goal n front of a 15,000 crowd and a nation-wide audience so there was a lot of pressure then."
