American College Awards Professional Designations.

The American College awarded 2,805 Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designations in October during the college's conferment ceremony in Orlando, Fla.

In the 1999 academic year, the number of new CLU designees rose 23% to 1,577 from 1,286 in 1998. The number of new ChFC designees rose 7% to 1,228 from 1,153 the year before.

About one in five new designees is a woman. More than five in eight hold college bachelor's degrees.
