America West Attains Two Major Milestones Tomorrow

PHOENIX, Nov. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Tomorrow, America West Airlines (NYSE: AWA) will unveil a new flight schedule offering 600 flights a day, an increase of 35 daily flights versus November 1995. Also on Friday, the airline will add the 100th and 101st airplanes -- both 150-passenger Airbus A320s -- to its fleet.

"Hitting the 600 flight mark is quite an accomplishment," said John Garel, senior vice president, marketing and sales. "We're serving far more longer haul North American markets than ever before. The nonstop choices for Phoenix leisure and business travelers has grown significantly."

During the past nine months, America West has added new nonstop service from Phoenix to Boston, Detroit, Philadelphia and San Antonio. Direct service has been added to Anchorage.

New service has also been added at the airline's Las Vegas and Columbus hubs with the latter now boasting daily nonstop service to Los Angeles.

On Nov. 8, America West began service to Fort Myers, Fla. from Columbus. Last week it began service to Miami from both Phoenix and Las Vegas. Tomorrow, it begins nonstop service from Phoenix to Acapulco.

"Our hubs are stronger than ever and we're concentrating our flying where it makes dollars and sense," Garel said.

America West, the nation's ninth largest airline, serves more than 90 destinations in the U.S., Canada and Mexico offering the same full-service product travelers have come to expect from other national carriers but with low fares.
