America's Best Classrooms.

Daniel Seymour, Terry Seymour & 30 Teachers of the Year. Princeton, NJ: Peterson's Guides, 1992. 137 pp. $17.95. At first glance, America's Best Classrooms seems to be spun sugar with a small candy center, a quick read away from the frontiers of research. The book deserves a more serious perusal, however, because it is about and by the public school educator. This collection of musings abounds with inspiration offered by teachers who have forged ahead in the field of education despite the fluctuation of societal attitudes.

America's Best Classrooms would make an appropriate gift for the graduating preservice teacher, the caring inservice teacher and the concerned parent. Many quotes are suitable for bulletin boards, filing cabinet corners and kitchen refrigerators, such as Marilyn Grondel's "Each child that spends time in my classroom is a gift to me from his or her parents. It is my responsibility to cherish that gift."

We know that a great deal of good is going on in education. This book helps celebrate it. Reviezved by Nancy A. Verhoek, Assistant Professor of Curriculum and Intruction, Mississippi State University, State College
