Ambrose returns to action after injury nightmare.

LEICESTER U21 2 BLUES U21 1 DARREN Ambrose stepped up his recovery from injury with a 70-minute appearance for Blues Under-21s.

The experienced midfielder made his first competitive start since injuring his knee in November. The Blues youngsters acquitted themselves extremely well in a closely-fought contest and were unlucky to leave the Foxes' Belvoir Road training ground pointless.

Reece Hales fired Blues into the lead mid-way through the first half after chasing down a through-ball before bundling past the on-rushing home goalkeeper.

But the hosts struck back on 35 minutes through a Tom Hopper 30-yard pile-driver.

Although Richard Beale's team had the better of the play in second half, it was the home side who claimed all three points when trialist Conor Clifford sealed the win with a shot from the edge of the box with a quarter-of-anhour remaining.

BLUES U21s: Nick Townsend, Jack Deaman, James Fry, Mason Watkins, Amari Bell (Demari Gray, 65), Ryan Higgins, Charlee Adams (Liam Truslove, 75), Olly Lee, Koby Arthur, Darren Ambrose (Marcel Henry-Francis, 70), Reece Hales. Subs: Josh Hawker, Callum Preston.
