Worldwide Computer Products News-28 August 2000-Amazon.com and Microsoft form new digital book partnership (C)1995-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Microsoft Corp, a US software company, and Amazon.com, an online retailer, have formed a new partnership to sell digital books.

Under the new deal Microsoft Corp will provide Amazon.com with a customised version of its Reader software, which will allow readers to download and display text on personal computers or handheld devices.

Amazon.com has indicated that it wishes to offer thousands of titles in its digital bookstore and Microsoft Corp has stated that up to 100,000 titles could be sold in digital format by the end of 2001. The deal is the second digital books partnership for Microsoft Corp, which earlier in August teamed up with the online unit of US bookseller Barnes & Noble to create an Internet digital book seller.
