Amazon hit by new row over taxation.
THE UK arm of internet shopping giant Amazon paid corporation tax of less than PS10m last year despite generating sales of PS4.3bn.
Details of the American rm's tax contribution, which were revealed in lings at Companies House, sparked fresh controversy over its arrangements.
Consumers buy from the company's UK website and the items are delivered from British warehouses but these transactions are mostly with a company called Amazon EU Sarl in Luxembourg.
is allows the company to legitimately lower its tax bill. It is taxed at the lower rate in Luxembourg and then pays less corporation tax where the rate is higher in the UK.
Amazon says it follows the tax rules in all countries where it operates but Margaret Hodge, who chairs the Commons Public Accounts Committee, said they were damaging British jobs. Amazon.co.uk's corporation tax bill almost doubled to PS9.7m.
