Alstom, a provider of hydropower equipment and services, has signed a contract with Kiewit Alarie Partnership (KAP) to supply three turbine generator sets to Ontario Power Generation's (OPG) Lower Mattagami project in Northern Ontario.
KAP, a partnership between Peter Kiewit & Sons Co (Kiewit) and Leo Alarie and Sons Construction Ltd, both construction firms operating in Canada, is the design build contractor for OPG's Lower Mattagami project.
This contract announced on Thursday, which is valued at over CAD110m, was booked in fiscal year 2009/10.
Under the terms of the contract, Alstom will supply three hydro turbine generator sets at the new Smoky Falls Generating Station, which will replace the existing station, thereby significantly optimising water utilisation. When installed, the new turbine generators will have a combined capacity of 267 MW.
Smoky Falls Generating Station is one of four stations to be redeveloped as part of OPG's CAD2.6bn Lower Mattagami project.
Alstom will design and supply three new generating units, including propeller turbines, vertical generators, static excitation systems, speed governor systems and protection and control systems. The company will provide a complete turnkey package, including installation and commissioning of the units, which is planned for the end of 2013.
Core components such as turbine runners and generator bars will be manufactured at Alstom's facility in Sorrel-Tracy, Quebec.
Alstom is a provider of power generation, power transmission and rail infrastructure and sets the benchmark for environmentally friendly technologies.
