IT group Alphameric Plc has acquired the worldwide rights to software that enables the provision of mass-market public access to the Internet from Servonet I.T. Ltd.

Following the acquisition Alphameric now intends to roll out hundreds of public access Internet terminals in Europe with further expansion planned for later this year.

The terminals will enable users to send and receive e-mails, visit accredited web sites, conduct online transactions and play games. Alphameric will generate revenue through renting the terminals to such places as pubs, bookmakers, retail outlets hotel chains.

Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
