Alphabet introduces cybersecurity business Chronicle.

Google's parent company Alphabet has introduced Chronicle, a cybersecurity business created to protect companies from cybercriminals.

Founded within Alphabet's research and development division Google X, Chronicle was described as a 'digital immune system' for customers by Google X's chief Astro Teller. The cybersecurity firm will focus on aiding organisations in detecting and analysing threats, as it claims to be able to do this faster than existing systems.

Chronicle CEO Stephen Gillett revealed that whilst budget restrictions and a skill shortage affects companies combatting security risks, Chronicle aims to help organisations to be more effective. Gillett said that the company will have two parts: a 'cybersecurity intelligence and analytics platform' and a malware intelligence service dubbed VirusTotal.

He added: "We want to 10x the speed and impact of security teams' work by making it much easier, faster and more cost-effective for them to capture and analyse security signals that have previously been too difficult and expensive to find. We are building our intelligence and analytics platform to solve this problem."

Google X is yet to reveal more, however Gillett said that early alpha versions of the product have been tested at a number of Fortune 500 companies.

Chronicle is the third company that has been developed by Google X, joining self-driving vehicle firm Waymo and life sciences company Verily.
