Almost 500,000 tons of flour smuggled to Kyrgyzstan, MP claims.

Almost 500,000 tons of flours are smuggled to Kyrgyzstan, MP Ekmat Baibakpaev (Respublika-Ata Jurt) said in Parliament, Tazabek reports.

The lawmaker said the official import of flour to Kyrgyzstan in 2014 made 460,000 tons, while in 2018 it stood just at 78,000 tons.

"Flour production dropped 3 times. Official import of flour remains at the same level, but undeclared flour is smuggled nowadays in the amount of almost 500,000 tons to Kyrgyzstan. 3,000 of our citizens, who used to work at flour mills, remained unemployed, most of them left the country to work abroad," he said.

"80% of flour is imported from Kazakhstan. We support economy of Kazakhstan closing our mills. None of flour mills achieved its tax plan. No taxes were paid, all mills do not work," the MP claimed.
