DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 2000

Provides Enhanced Voice and Internet Services to

Businesses Based on HDSL2 and T1 Services

Allegiance Telecom, Inc. (Nasdaq:ALGX) today announced it will deploy the Lucent Technologies ConnectReach(TM) Access System to offer small and medium-sized business customers a cost-effective way to get voice and high-speed Internet services.

Allegiance will provide integrated access services using the ConnectReach system to small businesses in 21 markets across the United States including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Washington.

The ConnectReach system enables service providers such as Allegiance Telecom to offer small and medium-sized businesses local and long distance services, Internet access and high-speed data communications with a low-cost integrated solution.

"To promote competition in the business market, Allegiance is constantly looking into ways to offer enhanced services and deliver a value-add solution to our business customers," said Ted Gilmore, senior vice president of marketing at Allegiance Telecom. "By offering integrated services via HDSL2 or traditional T1, Allegiance is able to provide a comprehensive and cost-effective solution for local and long distance voice, data and high-speed Internet services."

ConnectReach, which is based on VINA Technologies' Multiservice T1 Integrator(R) will deliver all local and long distance calls, Internet access and data communications for a business over a high-speed (1.5 Mbps) T1 line. The ConnectReach system, which resides at the customer premise, enables Allegiance to offer cost-effective bundled voice and Internet services and other value-added applications to its small and medium-sized business customers.

"By consolidating so much functionality into one piece of equipment connected by a single line, the ConnectReach system will help Allegiance maximize the number of revenue-generating voice and data services it can offer over HDSL2 or T1," said Bill Plunkett, Lucent senior vice president of sales for strategic accounts.

"VINA and Lucent's solutions are specifically designed to meet the needs of small and medium-sized business customers, and enable service providers to offer enhanced voice and high-speed Internet services to compete in the Internet-driven economy," said Steve Bauman, president and CEO, VINA Technologies.
