Allegheny brings back Weizen beer.
The Weizen beer is a seasonal brand made from a mixture of barley, wheat, hops, and water, together with an authentic Bavarian wheat beer yeast.
According to company president Tom Pastorius, the brewery has not produced wheat beer for several years, because it was difficult to find the authentic wheat beer yeast.
"There isn't a day that goes by without several customers asking for Weizen Bier," Pastorius says.
"The beer, which is both top and bottom-fermented, is unfiltered, highly carbonated, and has a distinctive, tangy clove flavor. It has a very loyal following among our customers.
The Allegheny Brewery now produces 11 different beers. The brewery also produces Penn Pilsner, which is contract brewed and distributed in seven Northeastern states by the Pennsylvania Brewing Co.
