Lester Piggott draws a blank from five rides at Longchamp. He manages a second place as Sagaro (Francois Boutin) is pipped by Recupere (Giles Delloye/Bill Pyers) in the one-mile-seven furlong race.

Kipper Lynch, who has had part of his right kneecap removed after a car accident, will be out of action until the middle of next month.

Cry Of Truth (Bruce Hobbs) has been installed as the 4-1 favourite for this season's 1,000 Guineas.

April 6, 1990

At Liverpool, Lean Ar Aghaidh (Stan Mellor/Denis Gray), third in the Grand National three years ago, wins the Fox Hunters' Chase from Crammer (David Murray-Smith/John Durkan).

There will be 40 runners in Saturday's Grand National and you can get 10-1 the field. This takes in Bigsun (David Nicholson), Brown Windsor (Nicky Henderson) and Call Collect (John Parkes). All three won at Cheltenham.
