lComedy Of Errors (Fred Rimell/John Burke) is a top-priced 4-1 to retain his Champion Hurdle crown after trouncing Tree Tangle (Bob/Andy Turnell) in the conditions event at Fontwell.
lRon Barry lands a double at Doncaster, taking him to 48 winners for the season. Le Gaulois (Ken Tuer) wins the first division of the novice hurdle from Mark Henry (Bill Elsey/Tommy Stack) and Bear's Paw (George Barlow) lands the second division from Kibenkus (Bill/Neil Clay).
lPetingo, a high-class racehorse and a very promising sire, collapses and dies of a heart attack at the age of 11. His wins included the Sussex, St James's Palace and Middle Park Stakes.

Morley Street (Toby Balding/Jimmy Frost) lands the odds at Newbury against Danny Harrold (Jenny/Mark Pitman), but Haydock `good thing' Nomadic Way (Barry Hills/Peter Scudamore) can manage only third to Sondrio (Martin Pipe/Graham McCourt).
lNicky Phillips, former owner of the Someries Stud and successful with horses including Roussalka, Gayane and Game Plan, is found dead in a car inside a garage at his estate. He was 43.
lHaving played his customary major role at the Waterloo Cup, Mark Prescott dashes to Southwell in time to see his River Chase (George Duffield) defeat China Beach (Bill/Emma O'Gorman) in the mile maiden.
