lBob Champion gets down to his lowest weight for a long time to ride Approaching (Josh Gifford) in the Hennessy, and even though he puts up 4lb over at 10st 6lb, they still are too good for Master H (Michael Oliver/Reg Crank).

lIt is a less good day for Jeff King, who breaks his right leg when Mac's Chariot (David Nicholson) falls in the novices' chase at Wetherby, won by Silver Buck (Tony Dickinson/Tony Carmody).

lMartin Tate and amateur Tony Fowler have parted company following the recent row over Fowler's riding of Grando King at Warwick, so that Craig Smith is aboard when the nine-year-old beats Woodvale (Roger Murphy/ Keith Taylor) in the two-and-a-half-mile hurdle at Wolverhampton.

lNick Walker, who began training only a few weeks ago, has his first winner when Noblely (Norman Williamson) wins the novices' hurdle at Taunton.

lWilliamson also scores when San Lorenzo (Kim Bailey) beats Tudor Fable (Nicky Henderson/Richard Dunwoody) in the novices' chase and is now on a UK best of 42 for the season.

lSir Andrew Lloyd Webber buys Black Humour (Charlie Brooks) for his wife, Madeleine from David Bott and the horse will race for his new owner in the Hennessy on Saturday.

lChampion apprentice Jason Weaver is to be stable jockey for Mark Johnston next season.
