All mapped out.

As one of the protestors against the building of houses on Coatham Enclosure, I am disgusted at the attitude of certain members of Redcar & Cleveland Council attacking Chris McGlade.

Every statement he has made is backed up with letters and documents. Have these councillors any documents to prove what they are saying?

I am not against leisure facilities which are in need of repair after many years of neglect, I also want a new swimming pool, but to build over 300 houses on common land isn't what I call regenerating Redcar, it's called destroying Coatham. They have already destroyed the town.

I was sad to see our local historian dragged into their argument with misleading information. I own a book of maps and photographs of Redcar showing Ordnance Survey maps dated 1857 and 1930 showing Coatham Common exactly where Chris McGlade says it is.

The author of this book is a man called Phil Philo. He was at the time the museum curator of the Langbaurgh-on- Tees Museum Services based at Kirkleatham Old Hall Museum near Redcar. The book was published in 1993. If anyone wants to buy it the ISBN number is 0 85033 864 6.
