All checkpoints retaken: Nuristan police chief.

JALALABAD (PAN): Security officials have recaptured all checkpoints from the Taliban insurgents in the Do b district of eastern Nuristan province, an official said on Tuesday.

"We had abandoned the checkpoints as part of a tactical retreat, but now all areas of the district are under the government's control," the provincial police chief told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Brig. Gen. Ghulamullah Khan Nuristani said he had visited the areas previously controlled by the militants. In order to ensure foolproof security, police reinforcements and equipment had been sent to district, he added.

Security officials claimed killing and wounding eight militants, but the Taliban denied any casualties. Instead the fighters said they had inflicted fatalities on security personnel suffered and that a number of areas were still under their control.
