THIS YEAR THE BLACK ENTERPRISE WOMEN OF POWER Summit hosted by State Farm[R] celebrated its fifth anniversary February 10-13, 2010 in "sunny" California. Despite the near blizzard conditions that swept the country that week, approximately 500 phenomenal women came together to network, share experiences, and exchange ideas with industry leaders at the La Quinta Resort & Club in La Quinta, California.

The Summit started on an inspiringly high note with appearances by the 2010 Women of Power Legacy Award winners: Non. Shirley Ann Jackson, Ph.D, President, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; B. Smith, Founder & Chief Creative Officer, B. Smith Enterprises; Aulana Peters, Retired Partner, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP.; Alexis Herman, 23rd U.S. Secretary of Labor; and Audrey Smaltz, CEO & Founder, The Ground Crew@ Worldwide. These five remarkable women were honored for having broken barriers and raised the standard of success for women of color in their respective fields. During the following days, participants enjoyed information-packed sessions including executive leadership panels and coaching workshops on a variety of professional related concerns like advancing your career through social media, the art of bullet-proofing your profile, creating definable goals and crisis management.

But it wasn't all business for our women of power. Guests were offered an afternoon of pampering and shopping with makeup masters and personal shopping hosted by Macy's, and a full-out fashion show. Lisa Nichols' Vision Board Party was jammed packed as she coached attendees on how to manifest their destiny and turn their desires into reality.

A major highlight of the conference was the dynamic and educational address by keynote speaker, Hon. Shirley Ann Jackson, whom President Obama appointed to serve on his Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. On the last night of the Summit, guests enjoyed a performance by Marsha Ambrosius, formerly of the R&B duo Floetry.

As always, we'd like to thank our generous partners for their tremendous contributions. Platinum sponsors included Abbott Vascular, Buick, Continental Airlines, EMC, Intel, Macy's, Marriott Hotels & Resorts, and Microsoft.
