All QUIET on Western front (again) for movie village.

THE TINY Mayo village of Cong, the setting for The Quiet Man, is to be immortalised on the silver screen once again.

This time producers are planning to make a film - based on the making of the movie!

Connemara Days will be a romantic comedy and will star a cast of Hollywood actors including Roger Moore, Aidan Quinn and Stacy Keech.

It will tell the story of the impact of director John Ford's film when it was made in the remote village in 1952.

When John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara arrived to shoot the film, Ireland was relatively underdeveloped with Cong only getting electricity days before filming began.

But as the rest of the country was queuing for food, jobs and fuel, Cong was enjoying a boom thanks to the work provided to locals who starred as extras on the film. The new movie will tell the story of local girl Heather O'Dea, 18, who falls for one of Ford's directors.

Director Kevin O'Connor said: "From the moment I first read the script, I loved it."

A spokesman for Failte Ireland, which is backing the film, said it hoped the new film will again will spark an economic boost for the area.

Roger Moore, who is returning to the screen after a 10-year gap, said: "To revisit the time when Hollywood arrived in Ireland was simply too delicious to miss"
