All Our Yesterdays:.

The 35-1 chance Enstone Spark (Barry Hills/Ernie Johnson) springs the biggest post-war surprise in the 1,000 Guineas when she scores from Fair Salinia (Michael Stoute/Greville Starkey) at Newmarket.

Starkey does better when Shirley Heights (John Dunlop) pips Ile de Bourbon (Fulke Johnson Houghton/Lester Piggott) in the ten-furlong event.

A dismal display by one-time Derby hope Sporting Yankee (Peter Walwyn/Freddie Head), who trails in last to Guadanini (Richard Carver/Maurice Philipperon) in the Group 3 race over 13 furlongs at Longchamp.

Romance is in the air as Elite Lady (Michael Oliver/Reg Crank) wins a novices' hurdle at Devon. The trainer and the mare's owner Sarah Freeman are to marry on June 8.

Steve Smith Eccles hits 50 for the first time as Prince Ardent (Peter Bevan) lands the odds in the selling hurdle at Hereford.

Armiger (Henry Cecil/Pat Eddery) continues the flying form of owner-breeder Khalid Abdullah by winning the Chester Vase. With Tenby a red-hot favourite for the Derby, Armiger looks like going to Chantilly.

Eddery completes a double as Risky (Richard Hannon) books a Queen Mary ticket by winning the juvenile fillies' heat.

Martin Pipe and Richard Dunwoody mark their new link-up with a double at Newton Abbot. Catch The Cross wins the two-mile-five-furlong chase, and The Black Monk takes the hurdle over two and three-quarter miles.
