Alfred M. Benson, MAI.

Alfred M. Benson, MAI, died on April 11, 2006. Mr. Benson was an appraiser for nearly 40 years and had been the principal of The Alfred M. Benson Co. located in Tucson, Arizona. He was a leader in the appraisal industry and very active in appraisal association matters.

Al Benson first became involved in The Appraisal Journal in 1988 when he joined the Appraisal Journal Advisory Board, He later became a member of the Appraisal Journal Editorial Board, where he served as its vice chair during 1991-1992 and 1995-2002. He was chair of the Journals Peer Review Subcommittee during 2000-2001, and in 2005, he became a member of the Appraisal Journal Review Panel.

Benson also was a member of the Appraisal Institute's Body of Knowledge Committee during 1996-2001, serving as its chair in 2000-2001, and a current member of the Commercial Appraisal Report Standards (CARS) Project Team. He previously had been a member of the Appraisal Standards Board Issues Resource Panel. He served as president of the Tucson Chapter of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers (1982-1983) and president of the Arizona Chapter (1984),
