Alfanar to build substations in hubs.

A Saudi firm has won two contracts worth SR363.9 million ($97 million) to build substations in two Saudi economic cities.

Riyadh-based Alfanar Construction Company will build a 380/132/13.8 kV substation at Jizan Economic City at a contract value of SR254 million. The project was handed over to the company by Jizan Economic City Land Ltd. The second substation of 132/13.8 kV, commissioned by the National Guard, will be built at King Abdul Aziz Medical City at a contract value of SR109.9 million. Power connection to the proposed Jizan substation is through 380kV double circuit overhead transmission lines from the Shuqaiq IWPP 380 kV substation and Kudmi 380 kV substation. The project is to be completed in 24 months. The contract for the medical city substation includes the laying of 132 kV power and fiber optic cable circuits. The project will be completed in 16 months. Alfanar is executing several key projects for various clients valued at more than SR5 billion in different parts of the kingdom for Saudi Electricity Company and other utility firms. Recently, the company was awarded a strategic project for the 380kV Hiteen Substation at a value of SR500 million. Earlier this year, it was awarded the strategic Macca West 380kV substation project at a contract value of SR444 million. It will meet the growing demand for electricity in Makkah, particularly the central area of the Holy Mosque. Another significant project awarded to it was the SR500 million 380/110/13.8 kV New Kandarah substation in Jeddah. Other projects it won were the expansion of Sharorah Power Plant (SR360 million and the SR505 million 380 kV substation related to the extension of Rabigh (2) Power Plant- Phase 1.
