BEIRUT: Authorities shuttered a food processing plant in Aley after complaints from Qatar's Health Ministry revealed the business was operating without a license and printing erroneous production dates on its products, according to a Lebanese Health Ministry statement. The Aley processing plant's potentially dangerous practices came to light in recent days when a shipment from the plant arrived in Qatar on March 29. The packaging date printed on the eggs was April 1 -- three days after their arrival in Qatar, Wednesday's statement read. Qatari officials reportedly blocked the eggs' entry into local markets. A subsequent investigation by Lebanon's Health Ministry found that the Aley company had no license from the Industry Ministry or health certificates to ensure the food it exported was safe for consumption. Security forces later sealed the processing plant with red wax. Health Ministry officials appealed to Mount Lebanon prosecutors to "take the necessary measures" in punishing those responsible for operating the processing plant, the statement read.
