Alden Richards, Ken Chan donate to Red Cross-GMA's bloodletting drive.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC), in partnership with GMA, raised over 3,000 blood bags recently in a series of bloodletting events in Quezon City, aiming to promote voluntary blood donation.

The bloodletting activities - GMA Network's Kapuso Bloodletting Day and GMA Kapuso Foundation's Sagip-Dugtong Buhay - yielded a total of 3,471 units of blood, surpassing this year's target of 1,850 bloods.

PRC Chairman and CEO Richard Gordon lauded Red Cross and GMA's partnership in the

bloodletting activities for the past 22 years.

"We commend the GMA Network and Kapuso Foundation for making us your partner in saving lives. Together, we will continue to alleviate the suffering of the most vulnerable," Gordon said.

This year's Kapuso Bloodletting Day, held nationwide last Feb. 9, opened the doors for GMA employees to help save lives by donating blood.

Meanwhile, the biannual Sagip Dugtong Buhay, which took place last Feb. 10, welcomed donors from the public with the support of Ever Gotesco Malls.

During the events, the PRC and GMA Kapuso Foundation, the socio-civic arm of the GMA Network, urged Kapuso employees and the public to reach out to the most vulnerable through voluntary blood donation.

Kapuso celebrities Alden Richards and Ken Chan donated blood for the first time.

"I am encouraging everyone to do this as well. Ako first time ko, it is very fulfilling, marami kayong matutulungan. Iba sa feeling. It's like a charity for me," Richards told the Red Cross during the event.

GMA Kapuso Foundation is a recipient of the PRC's "Outstanding Blood Services Partner of the Year," an award bestowed to groups that support Red Cross' blood program through sponsorship of by organizing mass blood donations.

The PRC and the Kapuso Foundation have been partners in conducting blood donation drives for 21 years since 1996.
