Alaska Communications Systems CDMA Network Grows to Include Valdez.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Alaska Communications Systems Group, Inc. ("ACS") (NASDAQ:ALSK), Alaska's leading integrated communications provider, today announced the expansion of its CDMA mobile wireless voice and data network to Valdez.

"Valdez is an important part of our CDMA build-out plan," said Liane Pelletier, chief executive officer and president of Alaska Communications Systems. "With access to ACS' enhanced CDMA network, residents as well as tourists will be able to use their wireless products to access voice and data services. Our signal will also carry across the water toward the tankers docking at the terminus of the Trans-Alaska pipeline, which carries the state's oil to market. We have another CDMA site planned in the area for later this year to further expand coverage for our customers in the oil industry."

The new CDMA cell site is located in downtown Valdez. ACS' CDMA network provides mobile wireless voice and data, with 1xRTT data speeds peaking at 156 Kbps.
