Alaska Air Group Reports June Traffic.

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 6, 1999--

Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK) today reported June passenger traffic for its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air.

ALASKA AIRLINES

Alaska Airlines' June traffic increased 3.0 percent to 1.069 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) from 1.038 billion flown a year earlier. Capacity during June was 1.495 billion available seat miles (ASMs), 1.8 percent higher than the 1.469 billion in June 1998.

The passenger load factor (the percentage of available seats occupied by fare paying passengers) for the month was 71.5 percent, up from 70.7 percent in June 1998. The airline carried 1,235,400 passengers compared to 1,175,100 in June 1998.

RPMs for the six-month period totaled 5.678 billion, a 6.4 percent increase from the 5.335 billion recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the six months ended June 1999 increased 5.3 percent to 8.384 billion ASMs, up from 7.964 billion in 1998.

The passenger load factor for the first six months of 1999 was 67.7 percent, up from 67.0 percent in 1998. The airline carried 6,510,800 passengers, compared to 6,183,500 in 1998.

HORIZON AIR

Horizon Air's June traffic increased 22.1 percent to 122.0 million RPMs from 99.9 million flown a year earlier. Capacity for June was 189.9 million ASMs, 22.2 percent higher than last year's 155.3 million.

The passenger load factor for the month was 64.3 percent, compared to 64.3 percent last June. The airline carried 434,000 passengers compared to 385,000 in June 1998.

Revenue passenger miles for the six-month period totaled 641 million, a 27.4 percent increase from the 503 million recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the six months ended June 1999 increased 26.1 percent to 1.05 billion ASMs, up from 833 million in 1998.

The passenger load factor for the six months of 1999 was 61.0 percent, up from 60.4 percent in 1998. The airline carried 2,383,000 passengers, compared to 1,982,000 in 1998.
