Al-Halbouni Souq, Stories of Damascene Heritage and History.
It is one of the old routes in the old city which is full of libraries, bookstores and publishing houses.
In the past, al-Halbouni Souq was a fountain of knowledge and a forum for intellectuals and poets from all neighboring countries to go deep into the world of knowledge, literature and philosophy.
Nowadays, there are a large number of libraries in Damascus, mostly gathered in al-Halbouni Souq where you can see the famous publishing houses and big libraries and feel that knowledge is not limited to some people.
Al-Halbouni Souq constitutes the favorite places for those who are found of reading and knowledge.
Mahmoud Barakat, a bookstore owner, told SANA reporter that the Souq was specialized in paper trade and now it is an important market for buying printers, papers and office supplies.
Amjad, a university student, told SANA reporter that he frequently comes to al-Halbouni Souq to buy references and tools for his studies.
Passers-by are astonished by this archaeological street which enjoys a historical value as its pavements have turned into book fairs around the year.
The Souq is named after "Sheikh Hassan al-Halbouni" who built his palace and a mosque in this area and used to meet publishers three or four times a day.
