Al Zayani is nominated as GCC secretary-general.

MANAMA: Bahrain has nominated Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani for GCC secretary-general's post with effect from April 1, 2011, it was announced last night. The decision came in response to a letter His Majesty King Hamad received from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah. It was handed over by Saudi National Guard deputy chief for executive affairs Prince Mita'ab bin Abdullah Al Saud earlier yesterday.

Bahrain highly values King Abdullah's mediation and efforts to further enhance relations and strengthen mutual co-operation among GCC countries, said a statement.

Shutdown planned

MANAMA: Bahrain will shut a 69,000 barrels per day (bpd) crude unit during maintenance at its 267,000bpd Sitra refinery in February next year. Bapco will also shut a 70,000bpd vacuum distillation unit and a 50,000bpd low sulphur diesel complex, a company source said yesterday. "From February 16, 2011, the refinery will undergo a scheduled major maintenance shutdown...for about a month," the source said.
