Al Hashemi storms into bowling lead.

Tops Open category as Al Attar, Marcial dominate Under-23 and women's categories

Dubai The Open category had a new leader even as Mahmoud Ahmad Al Attar and Uella Marcial held on to their leads in the Under-23 and women's sections on the ninth day of the second Dubai International Bowling Championships taking place at the Dubai Bowling Centre.

Syed Ebrahim Al Hashemi was the new leader in the Open category, while Al Attar and Marcial consolidated their positions further at the end of play on Sunday night.

Al Hashemi, who had been lurking in the shadow of world champion Mohammad Khalifa Al Qubaisi earlier in the week, surged ahead to the top of the standings with impressive series of 790, 761 and 760, including a perfect game of 300 on his third visit to the lane.

Average

He has a total of 2,311 pinfalls for an average of 256.78 -- well clear of UAE junior Al Attar who is in second with a series of 769, 726 and 788 and an average of 253.67. Naif Oqab, a constant team member of the UAE national squad, came up with a superb display in the opening stages that included a perfect game to stand third with a pinfall of 2,264.

Mohammad Sultan of Bahrain slipped down into fourth position while the UAE's Hareb Al Mansouri completed the top five.

In the women's category, Marcial retained her top position followed by Britain's Samantha Hannan with a series of 682, 592 and 599.

Liza Clutario, in third place, was the new entry while the UAE's Khuloud Akram slipped one place into fourth position.

Al Attar continued his dominance from the opening day as the sole leader in the Under-23 section with a series of 729, 735 and 717, while Mohammad Esmail managed to dislodge Hannan and push her into third place. Sultan Mohammad Al Qubaisi followed in fourth position.
