Aiwa America to get audio from the U.K.

MAHWAH, NJ. - Aiwa America Inc. will start importing audio Hi Fi systems made in die United Kingdom here for its U.S. market.

The U.K. factory will supply the main section of the systems, which will be combined with U.S.-manufactured speakers and sold in the United States.

Aiwa officials said the company will import its best-selling mini audio system from the AIWA (U.K.) LTD. Gwent factory in South Wales. The plant, which began operations in 1980, is in the midst of a second expansion that Aiwa officials said will double both the size of the facility and its work-force mid-1995.

Mini systems, sometimes called bookshelf systems,' have been a fast growing category in consumer electronics.

"For Aiwa America, this new source of product is a welcome development said Yukio Yamamoto, Aiwa America president. "And with the expansion of the U.K. plant we can be assured of a continuous supply of our best-selling models here in the U.S."
