Airline unveils new Almeria route.
HOLIDAYMAKERS are in for a treat with new flights due to start between Newcastle and Almeria next year.
Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have added the Spanish destination to its programme for summer 2017.
The route was officially launched at Newcastle's Quayside yesterday, where passers-by were greeted by two horses and their riders, kitted out in full traditional Spanish dress.
The new venture means that from next year travellers will be able to choose from 29 sunny hotspots with Jet2.
Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: "Our biggest ever summer programme has just got even bigger with the addition of a brand new destination.
"Costa de Almeria is our 14th Spanish destination and seventh in mainland Spain, giving people even more holiday choices to this popular country.
We're very excited with this new destination and I've no doubt it will be very popular."
There will be weekly departures to Almeria from May 2, 2017, to October 24, 2017. Jet2 flights start at PS46 per person, including taxes, with Jet2holidays package breaks available from PS349 per person.
John Irving, business development director at Newcastle International Airport, said: "We are delighted to see these latest additions to Jet2.com and Jet2holidays summer 17 programme from Newcastle.
"Costa de Almeria is a great addition, full of family attractions and beautiful Spanish towns filled with shops, tapas bars and top hotels. I am sure this new service will prove to be a popular choice with our passengers."
