ANA - All Nippon Airways

ANA said it has become the first Japanese carrier to implement a Line Operations Safety Audit program. From the end of August, approximately 250 flights will be monitored by trained TLC observers based in Texas. The review process will take six months and be repeated every 3-5 years. Jul 18, 2006

Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines is set later this year to be the first to fly the A380 superjumbo, a USD$300 million double-decker which has caused Airbus headaches because of wiring installation problems set to delay deliveries over the program's first three years. Singapore said that Airbus had demonstrated that the engineering performance of the A380 was sound. It expects to take delivery of the nine additional A380s, which come on top of 10 already on order, beginning in 2008. Jul 21, 2006

Singapore Airlines passengers traveling out of Los Angeles International may now avail themselves of a new door-to-door baggage pick-up service called BaggageDirect. For a charge of $30 plus taxes for the first traveler and $15 for each additional accompanying passenger, two standard pieces of checked luggage each will be picked up within 20 miles of LAX and delivered to the airport for flights six to 24 hours before departure. Passengers then check in at SQ's first class counter, regardless of class of service, using their BaggageDirect receipt. Jul 17, 2006
