Air Sahara

Air Sahara, which earlier this year nearly became part of fellow Indian operator Jet Airways, has confirmed an order with Boeing for ten Next-Generation 737-800 aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in mid-2009. In the meantime the airline is expanding with 14 new destinations to its network within the next four months including on the international front Colombo, Dhaka, Guangzhou (China), Male (Maldives). Singapore - Delhi continues but the short-lived London service has not been resurrected. The carrier has an extensive domestic network. Sep 2, 2006

Airbus, Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific took delivery of its 100th aircraft, an A330-300, yesterday in Toulouse. The aircraft is painted in a commemorative livery and joins 26 of the type in the CX fleet. A further five will be delivered through 2008. Aug 30, 2006

Airbus, EADS

EADS committed Tuesday to investing [euro]2 billion ($2.56 billion) in India over the next 15 years, funding that will go toward providing engineering and IT services and include the establishment of a massive Airbus training, maintenance and spare parts operation. Specifically, the Airbus parent will open the EADS Technology Centre India in the 2007 second quarter. Housed in the facility will be Engineering Centre Airbus India, a 100%-owned subsidiary of Airbus that will be the biggest component of EADS' Indian investment. Aug 31, 2006

Northrop Grumman announced that Jet Airways chose its next-generation data internal reference units for use on A330-200s. Aug 30, 2006

Biman Bangladesh Airlines

Biman Bangladesh Airlines removed five of its 13 aircraft from service because it cannot afford maintenance and is cutting international flights as a result, Deputy GM Khan Mosharraf Hossain was quoted as saying by Reuters. The aircraft--two DC-10s, one A310 and two F28s--were sent abroad for service. Biman will cut frequencies on routes to Europe and Asia. It ended its New York JFK service last month. It is projecting a BDT6.91 billion ($96.3 million) loss for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2007. It owes BDT12 billion to Bangladesh Petroleum Corp., Reuters reported. Aug 29, 2006


Boeing picks Nagpur as Indian MRO base. Boeing yesterday named Nagpur in central India as the location of a new MRO facility intended to address growing demand for maintenance services in India. The manufacturer's commitment to invest up to $100 million in the facility was part of Air India's order for 68 aircraft, Jan. 12), which was finalized in January. Aug 30, 2006


Boeing said Indian carriers will need 856 new aircraft worth more than $72 billion over the next 20 years, nearly double the 470 aircraft it projected last year. Aug 29, 2006

Boeing, Air Sahara

Air Sahara customer for 10 737-800s; Boeing doubles India forecast. Boeing confirmed yesterday that Air Sahara is a previously unidentified customer for 10 737-800s. The order, worth more than $700 million at list prices, was placed in the first quarter of this year. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in mid-2009. "This order reflects our confidence both in the growth of India's aviation market and Air Sahara's modernization and expansion plans," President Alok Sharma said. Air Sahara operates three 737-800s, eight dash 700s, three dash 400s, three dash 300s and seven Bombardier CRJ200s. It took delivery of an additional 737-400 yesterday, according to press reports, and will take another next month. Aug 29, 2006

Rockwell Collins, Boeing, Xiamen Airlines

Rockwell Collins was selected by Xiamen Airlines to provide avionics for its 15 737-800s, the first of which was delivered last month. Aug 30, 2006
