Air cadet leading the way.
AIR Cadet Flight Sergeant Paolo David, (18), from 163 (Coventry Phoenix) Squadron, is delighted to have been selected for Junior Leader training 2016-17.
The current Lord Mayor's Air Cadet, from the Canley based Squadron recently attended the selection weekend at Beckingham Training Camp, in Lincolnshire, which consisted of an interview, command tasks, a fieldcraft test and lots of physical activity and assessments. Many of the original candidates did not make it through this weekend but FS David said although he was 'nervous', he felt 'confident throughout.'.
The Junior Leader Course is physically demanding and requires real commitment and determination. The course, which runs from September to Easter, involves nine weekend training camps and an assessment week. The Air Cadet Organisaton describes the course as 'the toughest but most rewarding of our leadership courses', so FS David is aware of the challenges ahead. He will also get the opportunity to achieve the award of a Level Two Certificate in Team Leadership from the Institute of Leadership and Management.
FS David is 'excited' to get started as the Course commences this weekend.
Officer Commanding 163 Squadron, Flt Lt Samantha Collins said, "this is the first cadet from 163 Squadron to have been selected for this training so I am very proud of Flight Sergeant David. He is an exemplary young man who is always smart, enthusiastic and takes pride in all he does. He is a credit to the Air Cadet Organisation and he fully deserves this opportunity".
163 Squadron is currently recruiting new cadets for young people who have just started in year 8 or 9 at school. Please find the Squadron on Facebook for more information or call the Squadron on 02476 854929 between 7.15pm and 9.15pm on a Monday or Wednesday.
