Foreign firms expected to lead bidding for Midway. Foreign bidders are expected to dominate the sale of Chicago's Midway airport next year. "We are seeing interest from more than the usual four or five [companies] -- the British, Australian, Singaporean, Germans and the Spanish," Chicago Chief Financial Officer Dana Levenson says. "But there are others starting to come out of the woodwork." Chicago hopes the long-term lease of the airport will help close a wide budget gap.

DOT may end IATA antitrust immunity; IATA disappointed. A Transportation Department proposal would eliminate the airlines' ability to collaborate on setting prices for international fares. IATA calls the DOT action "disappointing." DOT officials say such price setting, which has existed for five decades, fosters anti-competitive, anti-consumer business practices. Lobbyist emerges as top U.S. transportation secretary candidate. Trucking industry lobbyist Bill Graves, a former Kansas governor, is a strong candidate in the race to replace Norman Mineta as U.S. transportation secretary, according to government and industry sources. Mineta said in an interview with Traffic World magazine that he favored his deputy Maria Cino as his successor. Federal Aviation Administration administrator Marion Blakey is also a contender.
