Qatar Airways, oneworld Qatar Airways announces it will become member of oneworld alliance. Qatar Airways will join the oneworld global marketing alliance, the airline announced Monday Oct. 8. The move comes as oneworld partner American Airlines is in discussions with Emirates airline about a deal that may conflict with the pact. "The simple days of, you are either in one of the three alliances or you are outside an alliance, are now an idyllic past," said Craig Jenks, president of Airline/Aircraft Projects. Qatar Airways is the first major Gulf carrier to enter into one of the three global airline alliances when it becomes a full member in 12-18 months. International Airlines Group (IAG) CEO Willie Walsh called Qatar joining oneworld a OlandmarkO for the alliance. Qatar Airways, which was founded in 1997, has a fleet of 111 aircraft and carried 15 million passengers in 2011. Rival alliances Star and SkyTeam may now be coming to the conclusion that it is Obest to partner with the Gulf carriers rather than thinking we are the pariahs of the industry. Oct 8, 2012
