Air France leases 29,500 sf at Avenue of Americas Plaza

Air France will move its United State Reservations center, Northeast Headquarters and New York Ticket Office to Avenue of the Americas Plaza at 125 West 55th Street, a new 550,000-square-foot office building developed by The Macklowe Organization.

Air France has leased 29,500 square feet, taking 27,000 square feet of office space on the second floor and 2,500 square feet of retail space.

"We are very pleased that Air France has selected Avenue of the Americas Plaza as the new home for its North American operations," commented Kent M. Swig, executive vice president of Harry Macklowe Real Estate Co., Inc., the real estate arm of The Macklowe Organization. "They provide a welcome addition to our growing list of first class tenants."

Air France, one of the largest international carriers, will utilize its relocated offices to serve the United states. In addition, the 2,500-square-foot retail space will serve as a ticket office and will house a VIP lounge for passengers traveling on the Concorde.

To fully service Air France's technical requirements, The Macklowe Organization will be designing, coordinating and building a complex telecommunications system to meet the needs of the airline. "Clearly the most complicated portion of this transaction is relocating Air France's data and telecommunications equipment without interruption," commented Swig. "Our ability to understand and implement this undertaking is a credit to our staff and consultants."

The tenant was represented by Fred Smith of Cushman and Wakefield, while Kent M. Swig and David Burris of Harry Macklowe Real Estate Co., Inc. represented the landlord.

Avenue of the Americas Plaza, completed in 1990, has become almost fully leased in the last several months. Most recently, Katz Communications signed a lease for over 170,000 square feet at the office building, the largest lease signed in Manhattan in 1991. Other tenants include Credietbank and The National Bank of Canada.
