Agfa Receives FDA Clearance for Mammography Diagnostic Workstation.

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. -- IMPAX(R) Mammography Diagnostic Workstation leverages digital imaging expertise to enhance diagnostic efficiencies of breast imaging

Agfa Corporation today announced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given clearance to Agfa's IMPAX Mammography Diagnostic Workstation. Designed to enhance the way mammography images are retrieved, displayed, archived and distributed, the IMPAX Mammography Diagnostic Workstation is a multi-modality workstation that delivers 'one-stop' review and results distribution for digital breast-imaging studies, while also gaining access to other general imaging exams, all from a single workstation. The IMPAX Mammography Diagnostic Workstation is also cleared as a vendor neutral solution for regionally approved digital mammography modality vendors.

"The FDA clearance of Agfa's IMPAX Mammography Diagnostic Workstation provides mammography departments a proven digital solution to streamline workflow, maximize their return on investment and improve the delivery of patient care," says Carrie Handley, Global Manager, Women's Care, Agfa HealthCare. "For the more than 32 million American women who will receive a mammogram this year, this could mean improved access, faster results and an improved patient care continuum."

This digital workstation incorporates ultra-high resolution, high contrast monitors for softcopy diagnosis of breast images and has substantial image manipulation tools such as Window/Level, Invert, Zoom, Magnify, Annotation, Hanging Protocols, and reliable Study Management tools such as Priors Handling, Active Worklist and Routing Rules. To help increase throughput, reduce patient waiting time and increase user satisfaction, the IMPAX Mammography Diagnostic Workstation also has specialized diagnostic and workflow automation tools and the capacity to simultaneously review multi-modality images, such as those produced from Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance; all from a single workstation.

Leveraging Agfa's experience in PACS, the IMPAX Mammography Diagnostic Workstation comes with full integration capability with PACS, RIS and HIS and reporting applications. When part of a PACS network, images can easily be retrieved and reviewed from anywhere on the network with other data pertinent to diagnosis or treatment. Agfa's Professional Services can integrate the mammography solution suite into your existing digital environment and configure this digital mammography solution to match your specific requirements.

Agfa's Digital Mammography Solution Set also includes the DRYSTAR(R) 4500M(TM) imager. This high-resolution, high-throughput dry hardcopy imager uses DRYSTAR Media, optimized for digital mammography applications. With a small footprint and 2 on-line sizes it's the perfect compliment for a digital mammography suite.
