Agency for Environmental Protection tests air outside Bishkek.

Employees of State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry collected air test samples from Ak-Orgo and Ak-Ordo residential areas outside Bishkek city.

The tests showed that nitrogen dioxide concentration in the air was 3.4 times higher than maximum permissible level and carbon monoxide - 1.1 times.

For the purpose of examining air pollution level in Bishkek, the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry employees intend to collect samples from all residential areas in Bishkek in the nearest future.

The Agency noted that vehicles are the main source of air pollution in Bishkek.

"Industrial emissions compose only 10% of total air pollutants while vehicles make almost 90%. More than 60 compounds of air pollutants emitted to our environment are detected in car gas emissions," the statement said.

Annually, the air-polluting emissions in Bishkek amount to 240,000 tons and 180,000 tons of them come from vehicles.
