African UN members urge lifting of Sudan sanctions.

Washington, Sept.11 (Petra)-- The three African non-permanent members of the UN Security Council called late Tuesday for lifting sanctions against Sudan. In a joint statement, South Africa, Ivory Coast, and Equatorial Guinea, announced that the African Union (AU)'s Peace and Security Council had already lifted its sanctions against Sudan in light of the country's latest political developments In this context, the statement also urged the Security Council members to "follow suit" and lift all sanctions against Sudan. The three countries also called on representatives of Sudan's new government to work toward lasting peace and stability. The UN Security Council has imposed a host of sanctions against Sudan since 2005, including arms embargoes, travel bans and asset freezes. //Petra//WH 11/09/2019 12:38:00
