Afghanistan: Dozens Killed, Wounded in Blast Targeting Kabul Cultural Offices, ISIL Claims Responsibility.
Summary: TEHRAN (FNA)- The Afghan Interior Ministry said at least 40 people, including women and children, were killed and dozens wounded in a blast in Kabul near the offices of Afghan Voice News Agency (AVA) and a Shia cultural center.
The explosion early on Thursday struck an area close to both the news agency and Tebyan cultural centre, Al-Jazeera reported.
According to one survivor, social activists had gathered at the Tebyan social and cultural activity center for a meeting when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives, Tolo news reported.
1TV News, quoting an Interior Ministry Spokesman, said a suicide bomber was likely to have been behind the attack. But, Tolo news citing officials that there could have been up to three attackers.
Health officials confirmed that at least 40 people were killed and dozens more wounded in a suicide attack in Pule Sokhtia area of Kabul on Thursday morning, while some of the wounded are in critical condition.
Taliban has denied involvement, but the ISIL terror group has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.
Taliban militants launch attacks across the country on an almost daily basis, despite the presence of thousands of foreign troops on Afghan soil. Exploiting the chaos, the ISIL has been seeking to expand its presence in Afghanistan after losing the territories under its control in Iraq and Syria, where it first emerged in 2014.
