Affair was stupid, admits Prescott.

Summary: Former deputy prime minister Lord Prescott has admitted that his affair with diary secretary Tracey Temple was "stupid".

Former deputy prime minister Lord Prescott has admitted that his affair with diary secretary Tracey Temple was "stupid" and apologised to his wife in front of a studio audience.

During an interview with Piers Morgan for his Life Stories series, the peer watched a video of Pauline saying she was "completely devastated", then told her in front of the audience that he "loved her like never before".

He also talked about his battle with bulimia, punching a demonstrator in the face and being called a "thug" in the House of Lords.

Of the affair, he told Morgan: "It was stupid, I've got no excuse really. People talk about mid-life crises but I think it's part of an opportunity that developed.

"I don't want to cast aspersions on anybody involved in it, it was a stupid act. All I could say was sorry and my wife was prepared to say 'daft old bugger', and, she's not forgiven me, but we have a wonderful life from our family and that's the nature and quality of that woman that she can say that.

"There's no excuse, it's just an opportunity that presented in a limited way and that happened and as soon as the press rang me I didn't deny it I just said 'that's it' and I had to go home and explain it."
