Crawford is with the Institute for Language and Education Policy, a nonprofit research and advocacy group promoting research-based policies for English and heritage-language learners. He is also the author of several books on language education and policy issues, and is a former Washington editor of Education Week. He presents 18 articles, written between 1996 and 2007, which offer fellow advocates a discussion of the major issues in language policy and politics, demographic change, second-language acquisition, bilingual education research, public and media responses to diversity, "official-English" campaigns, minority language rights, the impact of misguided accountability schemes like No Child Left Behind, and ways to improve advocacy on behalf of English language learners.
